1974 Wiltshire Commemorative Metal 

Stonehenge is depicted on the front of this Wiltshire commemorative coin.

The back reads "To commemorate the boundary changes to the ancient counties of England 31st March 1974"

It should be noted that Wiltshire's boundaries remain unchanged in the remapping of 1974.

A PROOF QUALITY STERLING SILVER MEDALLION FROM THE SERIES OF THE ANCIENT COUNTIES OF ENGLAND. A LIMITED EDITION OF 2500 SETS ISSUED TO COMMEMORATE BOUNDARY CHANGES TO THE 40 ANCIENT COUNTIES OF ENGLAND ON 31ST MARCH 1974, 33 OF WHICH HAD REMAINED UNCHANGED DURING THE LAST 1000 YEARS. MINTED BY ONE OF THE OLDEST AND MOST FAMOUS MINTS IN THE WORLD, THE BIRMINGHAM MINT, ESTABLISHED IN 1794. THIS MEDALLION DEPICTING STONEHENGE IS FOR THE COUNTY OF WILTSHIRE. THE COUNTY REMAINS UNCHANGED BY THE REORGANISATION. THE REVERSE SIDE BEARS AN INSCRIPTION MARKING THE THE OCCASION AND DATE ON WHICH THE ANCIENT COUNTY CEASED TO EXIST IN ITS ORIGINAL FORM - 31ST MARCH 1974.

THE SIZE OF THE MEDAL IS 45MM X 3MM THICK AND IS GUARANTEED TO WEIGH AT LEAST 615 GRAINS OR 39.8 GRAMS ( 1.28 TROY OUNCES ) OF SOLID STERLING SILVER

THE MEDAL IS HALLMARKED AROUND THE EDGE WITH BIRMINGHAM MINT'S NOW RARE HEATON "H" MINT MARK IN ADDITION TO THE ASSAY OFFICE ANCHOR HALLMARK FOR BIRMINGHAM, THE LION PASSANT FOR 925 STERLING SILVER AND DATE LETTER "Z" FOR 1974.
