1796-Electroplated Cast Lead medallion
The original ebay listing read :
A LARGE (48mm) COMMEMERATIVE MEDALLION OF STONEHENGE, DATED 1796, ORIGINALLY ENGRAVED BY T WYON, WHOSE NAME (ALTHOUGH SMALL) IS ENGRAVED IN THE TOP OF THE GAP BETWEEN STONE & HENGE, THIS MEDALLION WAS MOST PROBABLY A FIXTURE ON SOME SURFACE, IE A GATE OR WALL ORIGINALLY AND WAS LATER REMOVED AND ELECTROPLATED, (PROBABLY LATE VICTORIAN TIMES?), BUT QUITE AN UNUSUAL PLAQUE.
The original coin used to make this cast is quite rare and has an interesting history. More about that latter. I place its size and weight at about 1.2oz and 2 inches round.
